Jacob Lagasse is a native Artist of Louisiana, currently working as a Sleep Study Professional at night and Studio Potter/ Painter by day. Received his BFA at Louisiana State University, 2018 with a double major in Painting/Drawing, and Ceramics. Beginning his artist's practice in childhood as a painter with an admiration for sculpture, not until his first university ceramics course did he find his true kindred.

In 2018 he went onto doing “MORPHOSIS” a Solo-Thesis show featuring a 6’ x 8’ acrylic rod installation sculpture with 7 deadly ceramic creatures interacting inside. This was accompanied by 8 conceptual paintings and their counterpart ceramic pots. The Orchid flowers depicted in the paintings expressing their metamorphosis within their emotional surroundings.

He spent the summer of 2015 at the Burren College of Art in Ireland; studying site-specific environmental sculpture and watercolor. Furthering his fascination for harmonizing earthly materials with modern machinery to create a hybridized beauty. Each sculpture melding back into it’s habitat living on in the Burren; one of which resides within painter, Richard Hearn’s private collection.

Statement

Our connection to our surroundings and their impact on who we are is vital to understanding what our future holds and vise versus. Every piece I create is inspired by this fundamental idea that informs a metamorphosis. My work focuses on tactile means of exploration whether through painting or sculpture with pallets of highly saturated tones of pure color to draw attention. The utilization of bold pigments aids in the belief that color impacts and magnetizes as well as inspires the audience to investigate. By drawing in the viewer with vibrant color this also conceals the deeper significance of an artwork that is later divulged through further interpretation. The representation of every material and medium is open to personal translation, allowing relationships to be formed by the on-looker’s memories. Each piece possesses strong emotions that force the audience to ponder what/who exactly adapts when faced with evolution and uncertainty.
